The Department of Movement and Exercise Science, headed by Prof. Dr. Ernst-Joachim Hossner, focuses on teaching and research into the control and optimisation of athletic movements, i.e. issues relating to sports motor skills, biomechanics, sports biology and training science. Other areas of responsibility include the management of training science (Prof. Dr. Daniel Erlacher) and sport biomechanics, including the management of the research laboratories (Dr. Ralf Kredel), as well as the organisation of the Dance Science continuing education programme (Dr. Andrea Schärli).

The research group "Mechanisms of peripheral vision in complex decision making" (Prof Dr Christian Vater) is affiliated to the department.
