Research group "Y-Move Lab: Youth, Movement, Health"

Why physical activity and sport?

The Y-Move Lab is a research group led by PD Dr. Valentin Benzing. We investigate how physical activity and sport can promote physical and mental health, well-being, and cognitive performance in children, adolescents, and young adults. We bring together perspectives from sport pedagogy, psychology, and sport and health sciences, and work across a range of contexts—from prevention and health promotion to schools, clinical practice, and rehabilitation.

A key focus of the Y-Move Lab is the development, implementation, and evaluation of movement-based interventions to promote health and well-being in schools, clinical settings, and rehabilitation. We are interested not only in whether interventions are effective, but also why, for whom, and under which conditions they work best. To address this, we examine underlying mechanisms and relevant contextual factors.

We also study the role of digital technologies in physical activity, health, and rehabilitation. In particular, we explore how digital environments influence physical activity and mental health, and we develop digital and hybrid approaches such as exergaming, app-based interventions, and digitally supported rehabilitation.
